As a mom of three, it’s important to me to set an example for my children, and encourage them to chase their dreams. That’s why I poured my heart into building the Homemade brand and this website, a one-stop shop for anything from cookware to bedding to a resource for parenting tips and recipes. My story is similar to many mompreneurs out there. It all started with one idea that, after many twists and turns, has resulted in a thriving business. For my fellow self-starters, I am happy to share tips that helped me along the way as I built Homemade:

Be passionate

No matter what you decide to do, you need to make sure your business is something you can stand behind. There will be bumps in the road. There will be people who doubt you. It’s your passion and love for your idea that will help you breakthrough. Homemade is the intersection of all my passions, but also serves the greater purpose of encouraging families to focus on the importance of celebrating every aspect of the home. Passion fuels success and truly drowns out all of the negative noise. Love what you do and do what you love!

Be aware of your time

When you’ve got a million things on your to-do list, efficiency is key (especially when you’re keeping track of three kids!). Be intentional about commitments you take on, and look for time-saving practices and tools to help streamline time spent on your business. Whether it’s scheduling out your day, or just making sure your laptop is closed at five in order to find time with the family. I know how insurmountable a task it can seem to make time for everything. I created Homemade with the goal of providing solutions for busy people to not just get through life, but to thrive. Whether that be a piece of clothing that makes a woman feel like she can conquer the world, or a meal kit that can help busy parents get a delicious, healthy meal on the table in no time flat. I do my best to shut down in time to make dinner for my family, eat with them and put the kids to bed before I open up my laptop to finish out my day. This system works for me and helps to strike a balance.

Be online

Homemade was born when I started a YouTube channel as a way to share my love of cooking. Taking my passion online was critical in building a community and, eventually, a business. One of the fastest ways for your business to take off and begin to grow is to find and connect with your audience, wherever they may be. GoDaddy has helped millions of everyday entrepreneurs get online quickly and easily (including me…and my parents!) with tools that are simple-to-use and effective. In fact, this website is powered by GoDaddy. I rely on their products to give me the freedom to focus on growing Homemade.

Build a community

One of the most powerful aspects of the internet is the ability to connect directly with people from anywhere in the world. The relationships that I’ve developed with my community of customers and fans is essential to the success of Homemade – I’m always listening to our community to better understand what’s on their minds (thank you, friends!). And don’t forget to develop relationships with other entrepreneurs. In my career, I’ve been inspired by so many entrepreneurs who have gone after their goals; making and building connections with people whose businesses I admire has helped shape my vision for what I want Homemade to be.

Don’t be an island

Building a business while raising a family is hard. I’m proud to set an example for my kids of chasing your dreams, but it’s not without challenges. I’ve learned that I can’t do it all alone, and that it’s important to ask for help when I need it, and delegate to others where I can, whether it’s at work or at home. It truly takes a village. It took me so long to be okay with accepting help from the people I love. It must have been my mommy sense of pride. It took me feeling defeated for me to get to that point and now I still can’t understand why I was so stubborn. I am a much better mama when I’m not frustrated and overwhelmed with work and the to do list.
